Sea Monsters follows a family of Dolichorhynchops , also known as “Dollies,” as they swim ancient waters inhabited by fascinating creatures like saber-toothed fish, prehistoric sharks, and giant squid. Audiences will discover how scientists have been able to identify the physical and behavioral characteristics of these animals with the help of modern-day technologies. Using evidence such as shark teeth found throughout central United States, paleontologists are able to gain a better understanding of our planet in the dinosaur age. By studying remains left behind, investigators can also piece clues together that tell the story of how these dinosaurs lived, what they ate, and what they looked like. Moviegoers also visit the excavation sites where evidence such as fossils and bones are discovered, as scientists work to re-create the world of Sea Monsters .

Sea Monsters uses dramatic photorealistic animation to recreate these great creatures. Audiences will be completely immersed in the prehistoric water world of the film — an experience that only the Museum’s 180-degree domed screen theater can deliver. Narrated by Tony Award-winning actor Live Schreiber the film also features an original score by Richard Evans, David Rhodes, and Peter Gabriel.

About the Mugar Omni Theater

Since first opening its doors in 1987, the Mugar Omni Theater has welcomed more than 15 million visitors. Thanks to a generous donation from David Mugar and his family, the theater has undergone a major transformation. Renovations have included a 420-panel Premium Seam Dome made from custom-cut, powder-coded aluminum panels, which will improve film viewing by providing a smooth projection surface virtually invisible when films are projected on it. The upgrades also include programmable theater lighting — which includes an LED system — as well as a digital video projection system that accommodates a wide range of media including live feeds of televised events.
